Pic 3 - February 21st, 2012

Wow!! This is the perfect picture and depiction of love, kindness, and total total indifference!! Wow!! Love this!!

According to the comments on the site where I found this pic, this picture happened way back in 2009 during the Australia bushfires, and Dave Tree, the firefighter, came to the rescue of a thirsty koala that suffered burns in a bushfire. He found it in a forest during a blaze earlier that month. Dave Tree has been honoured as a hero by animal-rights activists. The animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) gave him its Hero to Animals Award. Sam, the koala, became a star on YouTube. The video became a worldwide hit. It scored almost 150,000 hits in just two days last week, making her the unofficial mascot of hope for victims of the fires. Sam is slowly recovering from severe burns in an animal shelter. Apparently she's being given tender love and care from her new boyfriend, fellow koala Bob. 'He puts his arm around her and comforts her. They're very sociable" says Jenny Shaw of the Southern Ash Wildlife Shelter. A 39-year-old man was charged with arson. PETA also wants to see him charged with cruelty to animals. It has been reported that over a MILLION native animals may have been killed in the fires in Victoria, including kangaroos, koalas, possums, lizards and birds.

Unfortunately, Sam, the koala, sadly passed away after a long battle to survive. (All this happened in 2009.)
